Education in Great Britain and Kazakhstan.
The theme: Education in Great Britain and Kazakhstan.
Aim: summarizing information about educational systems in Great Britain and Kazakhstan.
Objectives: Educational: to revise topical vocabulary, to summarize information about educational systems in Great Britain and Kazakhstan.
Developing: to develop speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. Brining up: to get interested in learning English, in learning educational systems in Great Britain and Kazakhstan. The type of the lesson: mixed. Used technologies: different level teaching, the elements of gaming technique. Visual aids: computer, an interactive board, activity sheets with the tasks, multimedia presentation, video.
Procedure of the lesson:
I. Organization moment:
a) The greetings. (slide 1)
Teacher: - Good morning pupils! Sit down please! I am glad to see you. Dear pupils and teachers you are welcome to our lesson. I hope you’ll find something interesting and new for yourselves. Let’s start, please. Good Luck!
b) Conversation with a student on duty.
T: -How are you?
S: - We are fine! And you?
T: - Okay, thank you.
T:- Who is on duty today?
S: - I am on duty today.
T: - Who is absent?
S: - All are present.
T: - What is the date and day of the week today?
S: - Today is the 6th of December, Tuesday.
T: - What is the weather like today?
S: - The weather is good/ bad (windy, cloudy, snowy, cold).
II. Warm-up.
T: - Let’s read the poem “The school”. As a phonetic drill. (slide 2)
“The school”.
The school has doors that open wide
Books and pencils I will need
And friendly teachers wait inside
When I start to write and read
Hurry, hurry, let’s go in
Lots to learn and lots to do
For soon lessons will begin
I like to go to school, don’t you?

T: - Alina, do you like going to school?
S: - Yes, I do because it is interesting.

Teacher: - During the lesson, please, follow the golden rules: (slide 3)
- Be active!
- Be attentive!
- Be emotional!
- Don`t say“I don`t”.
- First think then speak!
- Speak English!
III. Checking up the homework.
T: - What was your home task?
S: -To find English and Kazakh proverbs about education. T: - Read the proverbs.

IV. New lesson. (slide 4 )
Teacher: - Our president N. A. Nazarbayev said, “Every person in our country must know three languages: Kazakh as a state language, Russian as a language of international communication and English as a widespread language in the world, as a language of business and new technology”. -Today we are going to talk about School Educational systems in Great Britain and in Kazakhstan.
The aim of our lesson is summarizing information about educational systems of Great Britain and Kazakhstan. The lesson will be held in the form of Quest. For right answers you will get SMILES. Who gets more is the winner today. SLIDE 5
I’ll divide the class into two groups. You take the sets with letters and make up words .
(Pupils take the letters and make up words: England and Kazakhstan). - The first group is England and the second one is Kazakhstan. Group A will speak about education in Great Britain. Group B will speak about education in Kazakhstan. Choose captains. Now tell us about yourselves. You get 2 “smiles” for a start.
1) Introducing groups Slide 6 - GREETINGS Group A: Hello! We are glad to see you! Our group is from Great Britain. I’m Grigory. I like to read about Great Britain. This is Yelaman, he is fond of music and dancing. This is Pavel, he is very clever. Sergey is fond of History. Maxim and Alexander are brave.
Group B: Salem. How nice to meet you! You are welcome to our country. We want to know about your country’s education. My name is Alina. Сергей is handsome. Yekaterina is nice, Alina is hardworking and Madina is clever.

2) Vocabulary Quest. 3-5 min.
Students get cards with the tasks. The tasks are presented in three levels. Students can choose the tasks in any level, according to their abilities.
Captains are given Level A, and answer in turn. Who wins gets 2 “smiles”, the other – 1.
Students get cards with the tasks in level B. Slide 7 When they are ready, they hand in papers to the teacher and check their answers on slide 8. Level C – on the board.
Level A- for advanced students.
Level B- for students with intermediate skills.
Level C- for students with sub-intermediate skills.
Level A
Vocabulary drill:
– the process of teaching or learning, usually in a school or college (education).
– to go to school (attend).
– a school for children between 3 and 5 years old. (nursery school)
–a school for children between the ages 5 to 11. (primary school)
–a school for children between the ages of 11 to 18.(secondary school)
– a set of clothes that school children wear so that they all look the same (school uniform).
– a class for young children usually aged around 5, that prepare them for school (kindergarten).
Level B
Give synonyms
Nursery school = kindergarten,
mixed school = co-educational,
teaches’ room = staff room,
to sit at exam = to take an exam,
not to pass an exam = to fail
Give the opposite meaning:
To be at school # to leave school,
independent school # state school,
boys’ (girls’) school # mixed school.
Level C
Match the words with their translationsAttend, science, comprehensive, core subjects, private, curriculum, secondary education, study.

3) Watching the video. Listening. Individual work. Slide 9 There are pre - watching questions. Students read them in silence for 1 min. After this video the teacher asks questions and give “smiles” to each student for correct answer.
4) Physical pause. “Monkey dance”. Slide 10

Teacher: Your task is good reading. Take cards and read about schools in Kazakhstan. You will get 2 “smiles” for correct reading and 1 “smile” if you make more than 5 mistakes.
The 1st student: Thank you for your information. Now it’s our turn.
We start school at the age of seven. After four years of primary school we go to secondary school. Primary and secondary schools together comprise eleven years of classes. They are compulsory in our republic.
The 2nd student : Our school year begins on the first of September and ends in May. It lasts for 9 months. We have four holidays a year: in autumn, winter, spring, summer. A lesson lasts 45 minutes. Every day we have 5 or 6 lessons.
The 3rd student: The primary school curriculum includes such subjects as Kazakh, Maths, Russian, Drawing, PT and Music. We also have Nature classes. The core subjects in our country are: Math, History and Kazakh.
The 4th student: Recently Kazakhstan has developed several types of schools such as gymnasiums, technical schools, lyceums and private schools. Education is free, except of those which work on a commercial basic.
6) Speaking. Slide 12 Teacher: Now the team from Britain can get 2 “smiles” if they do the task on the slide correctly: TRUE or FALSE.
Teacher: Thank you, dear British and Kazakhstan students for the information.
7) Giving marks. Friendship. Slide 13 Teacher: Thank you. Let’s count your “smiles”. Who has more “smiles” gets “5”.
